Vase with superb " BRINJAL " glaze . h 21 cm.
Pear-shaped,with narrow neck; the top formed like a garlic bulb : " suantouping " .
Very evenly applied with a shiny aubergine ( brinjal ) glaze .
Period : KANGXI : 1662 - 1723 .
Exhibited : in the well-known " chinese monchrome glazes " exhibition held in 1956 in the Cleveland Museum of Art , invent. 16299/160.1 ( labelled).
Aubergine is a descriptive name of purple enamel colour on chinese porcelain. This name was given after the eggplant : the aubergine. The basic chemical substantial for this glaze was " magnesium" ( mg0) .
This vessel of very rare model, with a superb shiny glaze .
